The journey of the Steel Man

The Steel Man began with the idea of creating an icon for the Yorkshire region. This iconic 32m high stainless steel sculpture will be built in an historic industrial area which has evolved to be at the forefront of 21st century advanced manufacturing technologies. Beneath the towering Steel Man will sit a visitor centre. The Steel Man is project is supported by public appeal, Rotherham Council, Sheffield Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, and regionally-based companies.

As part of the promotion of this exciting creative project, a 3 metre scale replica of the sculpture and visitor centre is being displayed at selected sites in our region. Bramwell Relocation are delighted to be involved in the moving and relocating of the replica. On 22 September, we collected the Steel Man’s transit case from MTL Steel in Rotherham, then went to the AMRC (Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre) to collect the Man himself, and joined in with key project partner, John Palframan’s, retirement party. So far, on it’s journey, the Steel Man has been to Hallam University, The Great Yorkshire Show, Eroica, Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Sheffield rail Station, Bradfield School and Magna Science Adventure Centre, but today was about delivering the Steel Man to Meadowhall, a key location in terms of visitor traffic, where the scale replica, and it’s accompanying Heart of Steel artwork, will be seen by millions. Watch the the Heart of Steel installation at Meadowhall.

Our thanks to Graham Tonks and his team: Marin Bennett, John Wragg, John Mills, John Pennington, Mark Helliwell and Ant Bluff at Meadowhall for helping make the installation so organised and successful.

Now, go and visit Meadowhall to see the Steel Man and the Heart of Steel.

PS The Heart of Steel has now been officially adopted by the British Heart Foundation to power life saving heart research and ‘beat heartbreak forever’.
